English Translation By Swami Sivananda

When a man thinks of the objects, attachment for them arises; from attachment desire is born; from desire anger arises.

Transliteration

dhyāyato viṣayānpuṃsaḥ saṅgasteṣūpajāyate
saṅgāt sañjāyate kāmaḥ kāmātkrodho'bhijāyate

Translation

While contemplating the objects of the senses, a person develops attachment to them. From attachment, desire is born, and from desire, anger arises.

Meaning

In this verse, Lord Krishna explains the root cause of a person’s downfall. When one repeatedly contemplates sense objects, a deep attachment to them develops. This attachment transforms into intense desire, and when this desire is thwarted or unfulfilled, it gives rise to anger.
