Bhagavad Gita 2.42

यामिमां पुष्पितां वाचं प्रवदन्त्यविपश्िचतः
वेदवादरताः पार्थ नान्यदस्तीति वादिनः

हे पृथानन्दन जो कामनाओंमें तन्मय हो रहे हैं स्वर्गको ही श्रेष्ठ माननेवाले हैं वेदोंमें कहे हुए सकाम कर्मोंमें प्रीति रखनेवाले हैं भोगोंके सिवाय और कुछ है ही नहीं  ऐसा कहनेवाले हैं वे अविवेकी मनुष्य इस प्रकारकी जिस पुष्पित (दिखाऊ शोभायुक्त) वाणीको कहा करते हैं जो कि जन्मरूपी कर्मफलको देनेवाली है तथा भोग और ऐश्वर्यकी प्राप्तिके लिये बहुतसी क्रियाओंका वर्णन करनेवाली है।

Flowery speech is uttered by the unwise, taking pleasure in the eulogising words of the Vedas, O Arjuna, saying, "There is nothing else."

Transliteration

yāmimāṃ puṣpitāṃ vācaṃ pravadantyavipaścitaḥ
vedavādaratāḥ pārtha nānyadastīti vādinaḥ

अनुवाद

हे पार्थ! अज्ञानी लोग वेदों के सकाम कर्मों वाले वाक्यों में ही अनुरक्त रहते हैं और यह कहते हैं कि इसके अतिरिक्त और कुछ नहीं है। वे ऐसी दिखावटी (पुष्पित) वाणी बोलते हैं।

भावार्थ

इस श्लोक में भगवान कृष्ण उन अज्ञानी लोगों का वर्णन कर रहे हैं जो वेदों के केवल कर्मकांड और सकाम कर्मों के प्रति आकर्षित होते हैं। ऐसे लोग स्वर्ग प्राप्ति और भौतिक सुखों को ही जीवन का सर्वोच्च लक्ष्य मानते हैं। वे यह तर्क देते हैं कि इन भौतिक लाभों के अतिरिक्त वेदों में और कोई उच्च आध्यात्मिक सत्य नहीं है। उनकी यह वाणी केवल दिखावटी और आकर्षक होती है, जो आत्मा के वास्तविक कल्याण से दूर ले जाती है।

Translation

O Partha, the unwise, who are engrossed in the fruitive words of the Vedas and argue that there is nothing else, speak these flowery words.

Meaning

In this verse, Lord Krishna describes the ignorant people who are attracted only to the ritualistic and fruitive portions of the Vedas. Such individuals consider the attainment of heaven and material pleasures as the highest goal of life. They argue that there is no higher spiritual truth beyond these material gains, speaking flowery words that ultimately distract from true self-realization.
