अद्वेष्टा सर्वभूतानां मैत्रः करुण एव च
निर्ममो निरहङ्कारः समदुःखसुखः क्षमी

सब प्राणियोंमें द्वेषभावसे रहित? सबका मित्र (प्रेमी) और दयालु? ममतारहित? अहंकाररहित? सुखदुःखकी प्राप्तिमें सम? क्षमाशील? निरन्तर सन्तुष्ट? योगी? शरीरको वशमें किये हुए? दृढ़ निश्चयवाला? मेरेमें अर्पित मनबुद्धिवाला जो मेरा भक्त है? वह मेरेको प्रिय है।

He who hates no creature, who is friendly and compassionate to all, who is free from attachment and egoism, balanced in pleasure and pain, and forgiving.

Transliteration

adveṣṭā sarvabhūtānāṃ maitraḥ karuṇa eva ca
nirmamo nirahaṅkāraḥ samaduḥkhasukhaḥ kṣamī

अनुवाद

जो सब भूतों में द्वेषभाव से रहित, सबका प्रेमी और दयालु है तथा ममता से रहित, अहंकार से रहित, सुख-दुखों की प्राप्ति में सम रहने वाला और क्षमावान है

भावार्थ

इस श्लोक में भगवान श्रीकृष्ण उन भक्तों के गुणों का वर्णन कर रहे हैं जो उन्हें अत्यंत प्रिय हैं। सच्चा भक्त किसी भी प्राणी से द्वेष नहीं करता, वह सभी के प्रति मैत्री और करुणा का भाव रखता है। वह ‘मेरा’ और ‘मैं’ के भाव (ममता और अहंकार) से मुक्त होकर सुख-दुख में सम रहता है और दूसरों के अपराधों को क्षमा करने वाला होता है।

Translation

He who is free from malice toward all living beings, friendly and compassionate, free from attachment and egoism, balanced in pleasure and pain, and forgiving

Meaning

In this verse, Lord Krishna begins to describe the qualities of a devotee who is very dear to Him. A true devotee harbors no ill will toward any living being, exhibiting friendliness and compassion to all. Such a person is free from the sense of possessiveness and ego, remains equanimous in both joy and sorrow, and is naturally forgiving.
