यद्यप्येते न पश्यन्ति लोभोपहतचेतसः
कुलक्षयकृतं दोषं मित्रद्रोहे च पातकम्

।।1.38  1.39।।यद्यपि लोभके कारण जिनका विवेकविचार लुप्त हो गया है? ऐसे ये दुर्योधन आदि कुलका नाश करनेसे होनेवाले दोषको और मित्रोंके साथ द्वेष करनेसे होनेवाले पापको नहीं देखते? तो भी हे जनार्दन कुलका नाश करनेसे होनेवाले दोषको ठीकठीक जाननेवाले हमलोग इस पापसे निवृत्त होनेका विचार क्यों न करें

English Translation By Swami Sivananda

1.38. Though they, with intelligence overpowered by greed, see
no evil in the destruction of families, and no sin in hostility to friends,

Transliteration

yadyapyete na paśyanti lobhopahatacetasaḥ
kulakṣayakṛtaṃ doṣaṃ mitradrohe ca pātakam

अनुवाद

यद्यपि लोभ से भ्रष्ट चित्त वाले ये लोग कुल के नाश से उत्पन्न होने वाले दोष और मित्रों के साथ द्रोह करने में पाप को नहीं देखते हैं।

भावार्थ

अर्जुन कहते हैं कि कौरव राज्य के लोभ में अंधे हो गए हैं। इस कारण उन्हें अपने ही कुल के नाश और मित्रों से द्रोह करने का भयंकर पाप दिखाई नहीं दे रहा है। वे तर्क देते हैं कि कौरवों की इस अज्ञानता के बावजूद, हम ज्ञानियों को ऐसा घोर पाप क्यों करना चाहिए।

Translation

Even if these people, whose minds are overpowered by greed, do not see the fault caused by the destruction of the family and the sin in treachery to friends.

Meaning

Arjuna points out that the Kauravas, blinded by their greed for the kingdom, fail to see the disastrous consequences of their actions. They are ignorant of the sin involved in destroying their own family and betraying their friends. He argues that their ignorance does not justify participating in the same sinful destruction.
