उसके बाद पृथानन्दन अर्जुनने उन दोनों ही सेनाओंमें स्थित पिताओंको? पितामहोंको? आचार्योंको? मामाओंको? भाइयोंको? पुत्रोंको? पौत्रोंको तथा मित्रोंको? ससुरोंको और सुहृदोंको भी देखा।

Then, Arjuna (son of Pritha) saw there (in the armies) stationed,
fathers and grandfathers, teachers, maternal uncles, brothers, sons, grandsons
and friends too.

Transliteration

tatrāpaśyatsthitānpārthaḥ pitṝnatha pitāmahān
ācāryānmātulānbhrātṝnputrānpautrānsakhīṃstathā

अनुवाद

वहाँ पृथापुत्र अर्जुन ने पिताओं (चाचा-ताऊओं), दादाओं, गुरुओं, मामाओं, भाइयों, पुत्रों, पौत्रों तथा मित्रों को खड़े हुए देखा।

भावार्थ

रथ के दोनों सेनाओं के मध्य खड़े होने पर अर्जुन ने युद्धभूमि का अवलोकन किया। वहाँ उन्होंने अपने ही सगे-संबंधियों, गुरुजनों और मित्रों को युद्ध के लिए तत्पर देखा। अपने प्रियजनों को शत्रु के रूप में सामने देखकर अर्जुन के मन में गहरा मोह और विषाद उत्पन्न होने लगा।

There, Arjuna saw stationed fathers, grandfathers, teachers, maternal uncles, brothers, sons, grandsons, and friends as well.

Meaning

As the chariot was stationed between the two armies, Arjuna surveyed the battlefield. He saw his own relatives, revered teachers, and dear friends standing ready for war. Witnessing his loved ones arrayed as enemies triggered a deep sense of attachment and sorrow within him.
