द्रुपदो द्रौपदेयाश्च सर्वशः पृथिवीपते
सौभद्रश्च महाबाहुः शङ्खान्दध्मुः पृथक्पृथक्

हे राजन् श्रेष्ठ धनुषवाले काशिराज और महारथी शिखण्डी तथा धृष्टद्युम्न एवं राजा विराट और अजेय सात्यकि? राजा द्रुपद और द्रौपदीके पाँचों पुत्र तथा लम्बीलम्बी भुजाओंवाले सुभद्रापुत्र अभिमन्यु  इन सभीने सब ओरसे अलगअलग (अपनेअपने) शंख बजाये।

इन श्लोकों में उन महारथियों के नाम हैं जिन्होंने अत्यन्त उत्साह के साथ बारंबार प्रचण्ड ध्वनि से शंखनाद किया। भीष्म पितामह के धराशायी होने में शिखण्डी कारण था। सात्यकि भी पाण्डव सेना में एक महारथी था। यहाँ पृथिवीपते यह संबोधन धृतराष्ट्र के लिए प्रयुक्त है।

Drupada and the sons of Draupadi, O Lord of the earth, and
the son of Subhadra, the mighty-armed, blew their conches separately.

Transliteration

drupado draupadeyāśca sarvaśaḥ pṛthivīpate
saubhadraśca mahābāhuḥ śaṅkhāndadhmuḥ pṛthakpṛthak

अनुवाद

हे पृथ्वीनाथ! द्रुपद, द्रौपदी के पुत्र, और महाबाहु सुभद्रापुत्र (अभिमन्यु) ने भी सभी ओर से अपने-अपने शंख अलग-अलग बजाए।

भावार्थ

संजय धृतराष्ट्र को ‘पृथ्वीपति’ कहकर सम्बोधित करते हैं और पाण्डव सेना के अन्य प्रमुख योद्धाओं का वर्णन करते हैं। राजा द्रुपद, द्रौपदी के पाँचों पुत्र और सुभद्रा के वीर पुत्र अभिमन्यु ने भी अपने-अपने शंख बजाए। यह भयंकर ध्वनि कौरव सेना के मनोबल को तोड़ने वाली थी और पाण्डवों की युद्ध के लिए पूर्ण तैयारी को दर्शाती थी।

Translation

O Lord of the earth! Drupada, the sons of Draupadi, and the mighty-armed son of Subhadra, all blew their respective conches from all sides.

Meaning

Sanjaya addresses King Dhritarashtra as the ‘Lord of the Earth’ and continues listing the prominent warriors of the Pandava army. King Drupada, the five sons of Draupadi, and the mighty-armed Abhimanyu all blew their respective conches. This collective and deafening sound signified the Pandavas’ absolute readiness for the impending war and served to shatter the morale of the Kaurava army.
